Folk Lordz: Warriors & Fools at the Fringe!

12:00pm - Saturday, August 13th

VENUE: Academy of King Edward (8525 101 St.)

The folksy comedy hit of last year’s Fringe returns with a brand new fusion of folk-storytelling, improv comedy, and physical theatre!

Reaching deep into their very different heritages, Ben Gorodetsky and Todd Houseman bring Indigenous oral history and Jewish literature together to create a rich tapestry of hilarious and heartfelt improv at the Edmonton Fringe.

Take one part Cree-Blackfoot war story from Indigenous oral history.
Add one part Jewish fool’s tale inspired by Yiddish literature.
Stir in one part brand new genre – chosen by the audience at each show!
Bake for 60 minutes in a sweaty Fringe venue to create a fast, furious, and folksy improv show like you’ve never seen before!

“If you pass up this hilarious and hyperkinetic tribute to lore and literature, you’re missing one of the most interesting, compelling and viscerally thrilling pieces of theatre you’ll see this season.”
– Mooney on Theatre, 2015

“These two performers have excellent energy, a playful rapport with one another and great, creative, physicality. Truly, anything is possible in this room, and the magic is palpable.”

CHiMPROV feat. 6 DEGREES OF SCIENCE

10:00pm - Saturday, October 22nd

6 DEGREES OF SCIENCE is a whole lot of smart comedy created in RFT’s underground comedy labs by Joe Vanderhelm, a real life science teacher, and Kory Mathewson who has his master’s degree in biomedical engineering (we’re not joking). So, slap on your brain caps and follow our crack team of researchers into this weird world of science that blurs the line between fact and fiction.

CHiMPROV feat. GAME OF THRONES

10:00pm - Saturday, October 29th

The morning had dawned clear and cold, with a crispness that hinted at the end of autumn. They set forth at daybreak to see the foretold improv show, where stories would soon be woven. Rapid Fire Theatre improvisers rode among them, nervous with excitement. They sought the thrill of the stage, the rush of the crowd and the performance that could possibly cost them their lives. They settled outside the Citadel Theatre cowering in its vast towers, a chill running through their bones. Sarah Mattiello, leader of the improvisers looked upon the empty theatre and whispered, “Improv is coming.”

It is the academic equivalent of sword fighting blindfolded. You’d have to be a fool to try it.
