Nothing grows in a comfort zone. Keep failing and make mistakes.
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH RAPID FIRE?
I was a workshop student.
WHAT ARE THE KEYS TO A SUCCESSFUL IMPROV SCENE?
Commit to your choices and listen to your scene partners. Solutions will be organic to the scene when you are listening and not pulled from some external world. Even if the scene is failing don’t half ass it. Commit to even the failure.
WHAT ARE SOME TIPS YOU CAN OFFER AUDIENCE MEMBERS ABOUT GIVING SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVISERS?
Suggestions don’t have to be funny, that’s our job. Don’t be afraid to offer a suggestion because you think it might be weird or wrong. We’ll make it work.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT SHORT FORM VS. LONG FORM AND VICE VERSA?
In short form the challenge is to quickly get out a plot line, build stakes and resolve a conflict so there is a sense of urgency that is fun to play with. In long form I like developing a character and taking time to reveal the beliefs and the past that has driven the character to what they have become.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR IMPROV STYLE?
Michael Jackson dances with a water cooler.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ON STAGE?
The first Sphinxes show of the 2018/2019 season. I rapped in a yogurt commercial, was a relentless Olive Garden server, and was transported to the whimsy of fairy tale and superhero lands. Everyone on stage was having so much wacky fun and letting loose, I didn’t want the show to end.
WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF RFT?
I’m an accountant that works with small businesses.
HOW DOES IMPROV COME IN HANDY IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE?
Understanding that nothing grows in a comfort zone. Keep failing and make mistakes.
