Michael Kernan (He/Him) is an Edmonton, Alberta based improviser and actor. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and raised in Kamloops, British Columbia for high school, before relocating to Edmonton, spending time in Vancouver, British Columbia, and ultimately returning to Edmonton.
His passion for the stage began in high school through drama and sketch comedy. He earned a diploma in Acting for Film and Television from Vancouver Film School and was a member of CAB 33 Comedy. In 2015, he restarted sketch comedy and improv with Little Vine Productions, and in 2016, he launched his live improv theatre career.
Michael is a Rapid Fire Theatre Academy Alum, Grindstone Theatre School Alum, and a Mixtape Improv Community member. He performs regularly with Mean Streets Improv and Grindstone Theatre’s Thursday Night Improv, competes in Grindstone Theatre’s King of the Hill, and has appeared in the Edmonton International Fringe Festival for both Grindstone’s King of the Hill and Mean Streets Improv. He has also appeared in the Grindstone Comedy Festival with Mixtape Improv and Mean Streets Improv. His past troupe credits include Circus Law Improv and Live From Leduc Improv, alongside guest appearances with Red Deer’s Bull Skit Comedy.
On screen, he has appeared in short films, commercials, and the Gotta Minute Festival. Michael looks forward to expanding his work in scripted acting, exploring stand up comedy, and being a member of Rapid Fire Theatre’s 2026/2027 Rookie Ensemble.
When he isn’t on stage, Michael works in Information Technology.
