By popular demand, the minds behind Rapid Fire Theatre’s beloved improvised musical “Off Book” are now teaching a 6-week workshop as part of our core curriculum! Join Marguerite Lawler and Erik Mortimer as they guide you through a specialized workshop focused on improvised musicality, song structure, and performing with a musician. You’ll be singing their praises!
You will have the opportunity to perform in the Workshop Showcase for friends and family. Performance is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Marguerite (Marg) Lawler is an Edmonton based comedian, actor and instructor. They have over 15 years of improv experience, and have been a performer with Rapid Fire Theatre since 2015. They can be seen in shows like OffBook: the Improvised Musical, The Dinner Party, The Blank Who Stole Christmas, and more. They are currently the Artistic Associate of Short form improv with RFT, running the short form shows at the theatre, and they produce OffBook. They’ve performed in the Vancouver International Improv Festival, Canmore Improv Festival, Improvaganza, in NYC, and around Alberta. They have a BFA in acting, and are a Sterling nominated actor. Marg’s biggest improv inspiration is trying to find ways to light up a scene partner’s eyes.
Erik is a Musician and composer and improvisor based in Edmonton AB. Erik wears many hats in the music and theatre realm. Over the past decade his compositions, music direction and sound design have all been recognized with Sterling awards by Alberta’s theatre community. Erik has been fortunate to work with great artists and companies including The Citadel Theatre, Mayfield Theatre, Mitch Watkins, Andrea House, John Hewitt and Martin Kerr. He has explored many genres of music with many groups and is keyboardist for popular Edmonton cover band “The Barkells!” In addition to his work as a musical performer Erik commits much of his energy as a musical educator in the fields of private piano lessons, Ballet accompaniment and Improv Theatre. For over a decade he has played as class pianist for Ballet Edmonton. He has performed improvised musicals both with Rapid Fire’s “Off Book the Improvised Musical” and Grindstone Theatre’s “The 11 O’clock Number” amongst others. He has toured internationally with improv theatre having the opportunity to play with some of North America’s great improv comedians! As an improv educator Erik has taught in many rooms and brings the values of various art forms into the language of improv! As a teacher he will help you study the language of improv and the language of music, and explore how these languages interact with each other in performance!
