It all starts here! Learn the improv fundamentals of agreement, trusting your impulse, and embracing failure. Come have some fun while you challenge yourself and break out of your comfort zone. Participants can expect lots of collaborative group games and all-around good times. Whether you’re looking to learn something new or brush up on your improv skills, this is the workshop for you!
You will have the opportunity to perform in the Workshop Showcase for friends and family. Performance is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Teacher: Joey Lucius
Joey Lucius is Rapid Fire Theatre’s Academy Director and resident cutie-pie. As a teacher and educator, Joey has worked for Edmonton Public Schools, the University of Alberta, and Boyle Street Education Centre. He’s a alumni contributor to the online Beaverton, a Canadian Comedy Award winner, and an RFT stalwart for over 19 years. Joey is a birder.

Director of Outreach & Welcome, Joleen Ballendine has been teaching improv since 2007. She has taught internationally, is an award winning comedian and performs and writes for television. She is best knows for her loud voice, colorful lipstick and her ugly cry on stage!

Teacher: Dill Prusko
Dill has been with Rapid Fire Theatre since 2017, and has been the Director of Youth since 2023! Their full time gig is managing a drop-in centre for unhoused youth. Dill has always been passionate about education, having a sensible laugh, and wandering around with their hands clasped behind their back.

Teacher: Matt Kusmire
Matthew Kusmire will help you to achieve whatever goal you’re looking to get out of improv. Matthew has worked as an instructor with Rapid Fire as well as at the University of Alberta improv group. He has performed at festivals across Canada, is a producer with Mean Streets Improv, and an active member of the improv community across Edmonton and beyond. Currently in school for his Masters in Psychology, he hopes to apply this knowledge not only to help you learn improv but also to understand how it applies to other avenues of life. Everyone who takes a class takes it for a unique reason personal to them, and Matthew hopes to help with that journey.

Teacher: Christina Harbak
Christina Harbak (she/her) is going into her 10th season with Rapid Fire Theatre and has been improvising since 2011. She has performed in a variety of shows at Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival throughout the years, including as her mischievous character “Christina the Intern”. As an academy instructor, Christina works with people of all ages, but especially loves working with seniors and children. Having spent her own youth in drama camps and classes, she adores the magic of people of all ages discovering and re-discovering how much they love art, performance, and making stories come alive.
Arriving for class:
- The doors will open 15-minutes before the workshop start time unless otherwise communicated

To stop the spread of germs:
- If you are not feeling well please notify your instructor or the Academy Director and stay home from class.
- Masks are optional and up to each individual.
- We maintain increased sanitization procedures around the building, including regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces (door handles, Point-of-Sale machines, bathrooms, etc.)
